Primary immune deficiency is a disorder responsible for the weakening of the immune system, which allows infections and health problems to occur more easily and often.

Most people with this disease are born missing certain immune defense systems, leaving them more exposed to germs.

In many cases, the initial symptoms of the disease are very mild and could possibly go unnoticed. The symptoms of primary immunodeficiency disorders include:

  • Delayed growth and development
  • Digestive issues (cramping, nausea, diarrhea, loss of appetite)
  • Frequent or recurrent pneumonia, bronchitis, sinus infections, ear infections, skin related infections, meningitis
  • Blood disorders
  • Autoimmune disorders
  • Inflammation and infection of internal organs

What is important is that you know when you should seek help or visit a doctor:

  • If you perceive that your child has recurrent, frequent or sever infections that hardly respond to any treatments
  • If you notice any of the aforementioned symptoms

Contacting a doctor can be very helpful. Diagnosing the disorder early and finding a treatment could help to prevent future infections that may lead to long term problems.
